As many of you will be aware the ‘In Care Survivor Service Scotland’ is currently recruiting volunteers. Volunteers will play a vital role in delivering our services in both busy urban areas to ensure waiting lists are kept to a minimum and also to ensure we are meeting the needs of those in more outlying rural areas.

We are currently looking to recruit Volunteers to help provide Counselling, Advocacy, Befriending, possibly reception/admin and other therapeutic interventions. Our Volunteers will be recruited from all over Scotland including the islands so as to reach as many potential service users as possible.

We believe strongly in having a diverse range of staff and Volunteers within the organisation so as to meet the varied needs of our service users. This means that applications are welcomed from individuals with a range of skills, qualifications and experience, however it would be expected that individuals who wish to volunteer have some experience of working with vulnerable adults as we will put the needs of our services users first in the volunteer selection process.

So what are the benefits of Volunteering with ICSSS?

Volunteers have told us in the past that they have benefited from the experience in a number of ways on both a personal and professional basis. We have therefore included a short list of potential benefits for volunteers:

  • A comprehensive training course before commencement
  • Ongoing in-house and external training opportunities
  • Support in the form of supervision to discuss service user issues
  • Development opportunities through regular line management, work experience and time banking
  • Relevant references
  • Volunteer awards
  • Networking opportunities, regular communication regarding national conferences and the opportunity to build knowledge of other support agencies
  • Communication regarding employment opportunities

Volunteers are valued within the ICSSS and we will try to support and enhance the experience to the best of our abilities.
